Spain Address Format With Examples

Spain, officially known as the Kingdom of Spain, is a vibrant and diverse country located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. Bordered by France, Portugal, and the Mediterranean Sea, Spain boasts a rich cultural and historical legacy that includes iconic contributions to art, architecture, and literature.

Known for its lively festivals like La Tomatina and Running of the Bulls, it also offers breathtaking landscapes ranging from the sun-drenched beaches of Costa del Sol to the rugged Pyrenees mountains. Spain’s cities, such as Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville, are hubs of history and modernity, featuring landmarks like the Sagrada Familia, the Alhambra, and the Prado Museum. Let us explore how you should write an address for sending the package to Spain.

Spain Address Format Breakdown

Street Address or PO Box (Apartado de Correos)

Write down the street name and house/building number for residential or business addresses. If your recipient relies on a Post Office Box, write “Apartado de Correos” and then include the box number. Additional location details such as “Bloque” (block) or “Escalera” (staircase) can be added for clarity.

Example

CALLE ALCALÁ, 45, 3º A
Or
APARTADO DE CORREOS 567

Postal Code and City/Town

Spain uses a five-digit postal code system. The first two digits indicate the province, while the remaining three digits specify the locality or district. Include the postal code before the city or town name.

EXAMPLE

28001 MADRID
Or
08007 BARCELONA

Province (Optional for Big Cities)

It is advisable to include the province name for smaller towns to help in sorting and faster delivery. However, the province name is unnecessary for larger cities like Barcelona or Madrid.

Example

41701 DOS HERMANAS, SEVILLA
Or
46702 GANDÍA, VALENCIA

Special Considerations to Write a Spainn Address

  • Address Placement: Write the address on the bottom right corner of the envelope.
  • Address Line Alignment: The address lines should be left aligned.
  • Language: Spanish is the official language of Spain, every address must be written in Spanish for domestic mail. However, English is acceptable for international mail.
  • Rural Addressing: Street names are less common in rural areas. It is recommended to use village names near larger towns to ensure successful deliveries.
  • Formatting: Align the address to the left and avoid using punctuation like commas or periods.
  • Capitalization: For clarity and legibility write the whole address in the capital letter.

Postal Information

Spain’s postal system, managed by “Correos” (Sociedad Estatal de Correos y Telégrafos), is one of the oldest and most robust in Europe. Established in 1716, Correos operates as the primary national postal and courier service, offering domestic and international mail delivery, parcel services, and logistical solutions.

With a vast network of post offices across the country, Correos facilitates communication and commerce by providing reliable services to urban and rural areas alike. Spain’s postal codes follow a five-digit format, introduced in 1984, to ensure efficient mail sorting and delivery, with the first two digits identifying the province. In addition to traditional mail, Correos has modernized its operations to include eccommerce logistics and digital services, making it a key player in Spain’s evolving communications landscape.

Our Customers Say It Best

We have been using PostGrid for a few months. It works with our CRM, the software interface, efficiency, automation, and integration with no issues. Their support team is quick with resolution and their web portal is easy to access and transparent in retrieving transactions and analyzing weekly & monthly sending limits.

Chief Technology Officer

This API has turned out to be a great asset. We started off with 4000 mailings for 3 months and never had any downtime. I requested an increase in the sending limits and it was given to me in 10 minutes! I also have used PostGrid to verify our mailing lists. It’s been great to us and customer support is very reliable.

Vice President Of Engineering

We wanted a low-cost, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-use direct mail platform. Finally, PostGrid took all my worries in terms of snail mail. The pricing is very reasonable! There is almost no delay in the SLA’s commitment, and it is exciting to watch automation in action. Easy to build and maintain the mailing lists of our patients. Not to forget, reports can be generated, and a block editor can be used too!

Director Of Operations

We were looking for a solution to outsource and automate our process of mailing welcome letters to our customers. Previously had 2 dedicated people printing the postage label, stamping it manually and stuffing the mail and dropping it off at the postal office. It was very inefficient and could have caused major compliance issues. PostGrid helped us eliminate the entire manual process with their automation and API solution, now sending all mails smoothly.

Director of IT and Operations

Very straightforward, fast, and reliable address standardization API. We collect address data from multiple patients, clinical records, and providers and attempt to combine them into one. Addresses are often redundant or formatted differently in this process, which is our biggest challenge. PostGrid makes it easy for us to solve both of these problems simply by appending PostGrid to our datasets.
