Mexico Address Format With Examples
Mexico is located in North America. It shares borders with the United States in the north, the Pacific Ocean in the south and west, and Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea in the southeast. This geographical complexity impacts how people communicate with each other. This is especially prevalent in the way they write address format to send mail. Different regions write addresses differently. But this can confuse the postal service provider, leading to misdeliveries or failed deliveries. Moreover, there are multiple types of addresses, each with specific address element requirements. If you want to send a mail to a client or customer living in Mexico but don’t know the correct address format, we have got you covered. We have listed down the different types of addresses along with the format and examples for each.
Malta Address Format Breakdown
Recipient Name
Start by writing the name of the recipient in the first line. You can add honorific titles like Sr. for Mr. and Sra. for Mrs. If you are sending the mail to a business, the company’s name will come in the first line. Write the name of the person and their department in the second and third lines respectively. If you want to ensure that the internal mail distribution system sends the mail to the right office and desk, add ATTN. in front of the person’s name.
Example:
RITA PEREZ
Or
GHY SA DE CV
ATTN: RITA PEREZ
FINANCE DEPARTMENT
Building Number
Write the house/building number and name in this line.
Example:
26 ANDILINA
Street Address
In the second line, add the street name and house/building number for the residential and business addresses. Street names in Mexico are written with the street type before the name. There are two types of streets: Calle ( Spanish for Main Street) and Avenida ( Spanish for Avenue). You can also add additional information like the apartment number in the same line. In case of a PO Box, write Apartado Postal (Spanish for Post Office Box), and write the box number.
Example:
CALLE REFORMA 367
Or
APARTADO POSTAL 56
Dependent Locality
Add the dependent locality or the neighborhood details. When writing the address information of the neighborhood, write Col. before the details. It refers to Colonia which means a neighborhood or a community in Spanish language. If the address is under a housing development write Franc. (Fraccionamiento.). It means a housing state or real estate development.
Example:
COL. NAPOLES
Postal Code, City, and Province Abbreviation
Write the three address elements in the order mentioned above. The postal codes are called “codigo postals“in Mexico and they are five-digit numbers. Some of the major cities in Mexico are Merida, Leon, Puebla, Juarez, and Zapopen. An abbreviated version of the province will come after the postal code and city
Example:
56473 JUAREZ, CDMX
Country Name
The name of the country will come in the last line. If you are sending international mail to Mexico, write the country name in capital letters.
